Estamos, de fato, diante de uma crise hídrica? Pesquisadores da UFG buscam respostas para o problema

Dia 25 de outubro as universidades, faculdades e centros de pesquisa e ensino, ciência e tecnologia do país realizam o “Dia C da Ciência”.
A VII Conferência Brasileira de Estabilidade de Encostas será realizada em Florianópolis, entre 02 e 04 de novembro de 2017, com organização da ABMS – Associação Brasileira de Mecânica dos Solos e Engenharia Geotécnica – Núcleo Paraná- Santa Catarina, com o objetivo macrode discutir os aspectos teóricos, práticos e legais relacionados a projetos, gestão e obras geotécnicas de estabilização de encostas naturais e de contenção de taludes.
A motivação principal para realizar este importante e tradicional evento da ABMS em Florianópolis é estabelecer um fórum atual para resgate histórico do maior desastre natural que assolou Santa Catarina (litoral e vale do Itajaí), em novembro de 2008, onde ocorreram centenas de escorregamentos, rupturas e corridas de lama, as quais acarretaram inúmeras mortes e grande prejuízo a infraestrutura e a comunidade.
Além disso, serão discutidos os avanços que foram desencadeados a partir deste marco histórico na geotecnia do Sul do Brasil.
Nesta oportunidade, além dos temas técnicos da rotina, de análise e estudo de taludes e encostas, e dos avanços e novas abordagens, serão tratados temas relativos à normatização, novos instrumentos e regimes de contratação de obras públicas (ou concessionadas), assim como a atuação e relação de nossos profissionais com às emergências e desastres geotécnicos.

The CILAMCE 2017 – XXXVIII Ibero-Latin American Congress on Computational Methods in Engineering will take place in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil, from 5 to 8 November. CILAMCE is an annual conference – promoted by the Brazilian Association of Computational Methods in Engineering (ABMEC) – intended as an international forum for communicating recent developments of numerical methods in several engineering areas.
Since 1977, when it was founded by the emerging Brazilian community of computational mechanics under the leadership of the late Prof. Agustín Ferrante, CILAMCE has become the main opportunity for engineers, students, researchers and other professionals mainly from Brazil and Latin-America to discuss and explore the state of the art of computational methods.
CILAMCE is a multidisciplinary event: scientists and engineers from all over the world are encouraged to attend the conference. The technical program will include six invited plenary speakers and a large number of mini-symposia with contributed papers.
As it already has become a tradition, there will be a special competition – the Agustín Ferrante Award – to acknowledge undergraduate students who show potential for outstanding scientific achievements.
At this time it is hosted by the Civil Engineering Department of Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC).

Nantes, France, will host the 40th IABSE Symposium with the main theme of 'Tomorrow’s Megastructures'. Popularised in the 1960s as an architectural concept, a megastructure is referring to a very large manmade object, though the limits of precisely how large this is varies considerably. The term could be applied to any especially large or tall building, but also to enormous self-supporting artificial constructions.
Megastructures represent the most ambitious and spectacular constructions in the world which are all incredible technological achievements of great human adventures. As the Jules Vernes’ birthplace (who wrote many adventure novels, including a premonitory 'Paris in the Twentieth Centur”), Nantes is definitively the best place to address the following challenges:
• Megastructures: a radical paradigm shift or simply a change of scale?
• Today’s and tomorrow’s megastructures and megaprojects
• New trends for innovations in the construction, the preservation, the exploitation and the upgrading of structures.
The organisers invite the world’s structural engineering community to share their experiences with today megastructures and to present their vision of tomorrows megastructures, and more broadly their prospect of future outstanding structures. Consultants, contractors, owners, researchers and practitioners will have the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences on structural design, construction and maintenance issues.

The Annual Meetings will take place prior to the Symposium from Monday September 17 to Tuesday September 18, 2018, at the same venue, which is located in the city centre, close to the railway station. An Icebreaker Reception will be held in the evening of Tuesday, September 18, 2018.
The scientific programme will include Plenary and Concurrent Sessions over three full days. Panel discussions and Poster sessions will also be incorporated into the programme.
Papers dealing with different themes and topics of the Symposium will be selected from abstracts submitted to the Scientific Committee. These papers will be presented orally or by poster.
At the Plenary Sessions, invited keynote speakers will present lectures on key symposium topics. Sub-Plenary sessions will be devoted to specialized topics. Concurrent Sessions will be organised by topics according to the selection of the Scientific Committee.
Panel Discussions will highlight themes of widespread interest as identified by IABSE’s Working Commissions and Working Groups, in agreement with the Scientific Committee and the Organising Committee. Posters will be presented by their authors in facilitated sessions to enable contact with the paper authors during the Poster Sessions.
The official language of the Symposium is English.
The Symposium is intended for civil and structural engineers, architects and associated professionals interested in the megastructures.
Participants will include designers, consultants, researchers, owners, contractors, operators, suppliers and representatives of authorities and others interested in the Symposium themes and topics.
